jokes i laughed at this week that i couldn't have laughed at three years ago

we're obsessed with tribe-making. this is a very common, nay universal human trait.

we gather around our small fires - ultimate frisbee, literary theory, computer hardware, whatever - and get warm together. we tell stories and build languages about the things that we love; words and sentences that communicate whether you're in or out.

go to a board game meetup and ask whats a victory point
use the word top rope inside of a rock climbing gym
say one sentence about a door frame and i know how much you know about buildings

everybody has this in one way or another. some small eddy where you exist and you know.

"watch this, this guy knows every shortcut there is. Thomas, how do you draw a border around a cell? don't look at your computer."

"too easy. alt-H-B-S. give me something off the Home ribbon"

"freeze panes, goal seek"

"alt-W-F-F, alt-A-W-G"

"paste as values"

"control+C-shift+F10-down-down-right-enter"

"leave notes"

"haha, im working with Robert right now so I had to write a new macro for that. control-shift-R drops red text in all caps 'IS THIS INCLUDED???'"

LOLOLOLOLOLOL what a fucking burn

-

and then later, on a run with an olympic trials qualifier:

"yeah, i went to that workout once. they do some weird shit"

"i know, last week they were running a cutdown pyramid 1200/800/400/200 and i'm thinking, what the hell are you people training for?"

"haha i think it's called middle school cross country"

and i laughed and laughed. a true gutbuster.
