my ex-boyfriend was a professional skateboarder

this was hot in all of the predictable ways. he had an excellent form, thin but powerful. his arms and knees were run with scars and he walked with a strange confidence: like, after hurling himself down sets of stairs, nothing in the ordinary world could hurt him

he was lazy but he was also sexy, and so i forgave him his worse traits. stretched out on my couch like a beautiful cat, a body that could have anything but wanted me

in order to do his tricks he took equine-scaled doses of anti-inhibitors, usually xanax, balanced by low-grade amphetamines; ritalin, concerta. "you have to be fully relaxed but completely alert" he once told me.  "if you have even one shred of doubt then you won't land it". going out for after his skating, i'd have to grab his shirt at crosswalks or he would just float into traffic. he imagined nothing could hurt him and this lasted for several hours

we broke up without too much fuss. i wanted a different life than his, something more stable and rigid. i'm not sure what he does now because he isn't on social media
