when i meet gumby climbers, i'm aloof and withholding. obviously i'm better than them, i'm in the boulders every day. to me, a short trip is 10 days. no i'm not climbing today - i smile - it's a little too hot. i probably won't start climbing until september. i look at my fingers while they look through my guidebook
but when i'm with the crushers, they're obviously one dimensional. i don't buy shit for my skin, i don't use a hangboard, i own one pair of shoes. i have other interests i'm a well-rounded person - i read and write and skateboard too
at the skatepark i assert myself on the kids and whoever else needs it. i blow by too fast and take lines too often. it's chill if they skate but they need to stay out of the way
and when shredders arrive they're fucking dropouts and deadbeats - they've spent their whole lives at the same exact skatepark, laying tailblocks and having generally unattractive faces and bodies. i've slept with more people in the past 6 months than they have in their whole lives. i make 70 dollars an hour and i work when i want
at work, oh god. the things i think about the people at work. their lives are six inches deep as far as i'm concerned. they're living for 4 long weekends a year, when they can finally drink beer in a chaise, or drag their fucking families to a beach somewhere - huge gleaming yeti coolers and sunbrellas, talking about sports or cars or things they want to buy
and what's funny is that, even working three hours a day, even living in my car, i still get more shit done than them. huge teams of people - with twice as much experience - shut the fuck up when i talk on the conference call. and then they start writing diligently. the desperation in my boss's voice when i'm back from a trip - yeah i can probably do another 3 or 4 weeks, but then i'll probably take the rest of the year off...
i've lived more stories in the past three years than my father did in his entire life. i have a better body than 99% of my friends. people online literally beg me for dates
this is really how i see the world
my internal scene is pretty gnarly
